“Good, you’re here… then let’s see what exactly you think you can contribute to the Omrai Omvalis’ cause…”

Aella is one of the main antagonists of my original story “The King of Ivendarea”. Cunning and ever-scheming she has the infamous reputation of a ruthless revolutionary - but could there be more to her plans than causing chaos and destruction?

I hope you like this! Reblogs, like, replies greatly appreciated ♥ If you want to support my art, check my pinned post for Patreon, Ko-Fi, Etsy, and other links!

I wanted to draw Mira and her father for a while now, especially in the scenario of stargazing and Lucius teaching his daughter about the stars and constellations and the stories behind them. I couldn’t decide though how to draw them so I decided to do it in two panels because I didn’t want to miss out on Lucius explaining and also the focus being on tiny Mira listening.

omggg this is so precious lil baby mira ancient shadows awesome art

I posted a detail (the right half) of this artwork a while ago, but here’s the rest of it!

This is one of the illustrations I made for a work-in-progress art book which I thought would have been completed long ago… but that was then, and this is now.

The book progress is still slow and schedules have been postponed yet again – but I do still hope to print it at some point, whenever I’ll have the proper time and energy for it. 🌱

I will pretty much instantly distrust a fellow leftist if they paint the enemy as being ugly (’all terfs have bad hair’, ‘all far-right bros are fat people with neck beards’, etc). It shows me they haven’t done some of the most basic work of un-linking appearance from character, which leaves them open to a vast array of bigoted tropes, from fatphobia, ableism and classism to homophobia, transphobia antisemitism and racism, because who we see as ‘attractive’ or looking ‘wholesome’ and who we assume to look ‘untrustworthy’ or villainous’  has been coded by all these things.

lots of people in the notes pointing out that this is also true about:

  • Dismissing people because of their age
  • Pretending that the people who disagree with you are ‘unintelligent’ and the people who agree with you are ‘smart’
  • Accusing the people you disagree with of having some mental illness.
  • Accents and speech patterns
  • Mocking personal hygiene
  • Mocking someone not getting laid or mocking genital size or shape
  • Mocking lack of productivity and independence (’you probably live in your moms basement’ stuff)

And YES. You are all right. These are all bad reasons to claim superiority over someone and every time someone brings up this stuff their ageism/ableism/classism/sexism/etc is showing.

And ya know, 99 out of 100 times, the person(s) that you’re insulting either can’t hear you or doesn’t really care what you have to say. But the fat people, disabled people, mentally ill people, etc. in your own community do hear and feel a little less safe in that community because of you. Do better.

Ladles and jellyspoons, make every day gayer. I’ve got a new pile of Pride jewelry listed in my shop, and more beauties coming as fast as I get to them. Lampworked glass beads made by me at the torch, finished pieces designed and made by me as well. I take a lot of pride in providing an elegant, distinctive way for people to show their pride. If you don’t see your flag in the shop, drop me a message and we’ll work out a commission!

Check me out at GoldenAppleBeads on Etsy.

After I had a doctor ruin my health, cost me years of my life, and nearly kill me by missing the diagnosis of a tumor which was compressing my spinal cord, I learned this script:

“I’m not here to talk about my weight; I’m here to talk about [problem]. I have a history of doctors focusing on my weight and ignoring problems like ‘a tumor in my spine,’ so I’m sure you’ll understand why I would prefer we did not ignore my stated complaint to focus on my weight instead.”

“I would like to focus on the complaint that brought me in today, which is [complaint], not my weight.”

“What tests or course of treatment would you recommend to a thin person presenting with my symptoms? Why are we not doing that? I would prefer to proceed with those tests and that course of treatment.”

“Please write in my chart that I asked you for these tests and course of treatment that you would give a thin patient with my symptoms, and you declined.”

“I’d like to request a copy of my visit notes from today,” [if the above don’t work and you don’t have MyChart, “what’s the correct email for my written request?”

It may be difficult to insist on a patient advocate to be in the room with you, but in many states you are legally entitled to one. I bring one of my partners bc I have medical-triggered PTSD. They know how to advocate for me or support me if a doctor tries to steamroll me..

If you are in a hospital situation and cannot get an official advocate in the room with you, ask for a chaplain. Chaplains are used to being in a room to comfort and help patients and in many circumstances, just having a witness in the room will change a doctor’s tune REALLY fast.

Medical fatphobia is a big problem, and it really heavily affects but is not restricted to people that doctors perceive to be women (whether or not those people are women). Don’t let yourself be bullied!

Excellent scripts and advice!

Having a witness present is a truly excellent tip. Recently, someone I love was subjected to weight-based abuse by a doctor whose “pet project” was “helping” people lose weight by harassing them for most of the visit and recommending dangerous practices like fasting and fad diet websites. At a follow-up visit there was a nurse present, and the appointment got *real* professional *real* fast.
